Easter holidays..

With the beginning of the easter holidays last week and the sudden appearance of tropical Scottish temperatures of eighteen degrees, the work has some what slowed down. Going home for a few days however has been a really rewarding trip as it gave me the chance to speak to some of my family and friends about my project development and many of them made some good points.

Speaking with my brothers friends who are mainly within the range of 23-24 and are either working or in postgraduate study gave me the chance to gain a valuable insight into how young people feel when they leave uni and enter the real world. Most of them agreed that they all lead such busy lives these days they probably wouldn’t be able to sacrifice much of it to come and ‘play games’ in the building. However discussing the possibility of a sociable work space including facilities such as a mac lab or maker space seemed to be a huge hit amongst the guys and got me thinking about incorporating a zone into the design.

Visiting the building in the middle of the Dundee High Street a couple of days ago allowed me to visualise my initial designs more clearly and gain a fuller understanding of how the space would work and connect with each other. Entering the ground floor you are presented with a gorgeous view up to the 2nd floor’s windowed dome roof which allows natural light to flood down onto the lower levels, a feature which I would like to keep in the final design.

Moving forward over the holidays I have constructed a timetable which I will hopefully follow to allow enough time to complete not only this huge project but also all the written work, blog posts and CAD projects while trying to find a work placement or experience for the summer.. oh and a regular job as well!
