The Round Table.

Today we had our final touchpoint of the semester - extremely scary because I feel as though I have hardly been here since returning from Belgium and can’t believe it is so very nearly the end of third year!!
Anyway, the round table..
So we were joined with fellow students from JMD and Textiles in one of the DJCAD Hub studios for the afternoon and were asked in groups of 7 to each present our work for 5 minutes and then gain feedback and questions using the SWOT analysis framework.
It was really enjoyable to get out of the regular studio and interact with other students as we do not often get the opportunity to gain insight into different specialisms until degree show time.
Presenting my project so far really gave me the opportunity to self evaluate how it was going at this stage. Explaining the concept to people who don’t know IED and are unfamiliar with my research was slightly challenging yet very helpful at the same time as it forced me to condense the idea into a more concise explanation and made the whole idea clearer in my own mind as well.
After the afternoon session was complete, we each handed back our SWOT sheets to the other members of the team and were given the chance to read our feedback. I was pleased to receive many positive comments on my idea with nearly everyone in the group agreeing on the necessity of tackling the issue of generation lonely. In terms of the Weaknesses, threats and opportunities I found the feedback very helpful as the others suggested such things as contacting charities who deal with young adults and loneliness, speaking to other organisations which might offer similar facilities in different cities, testing out my ideas on the public and most importantly addressing the question - WHY would someone actually want to go into and use your space?
