Dividing the space

Going forward I have decided that the most practical and effective way will be to take the space and divide it up into sections. Having analysed the findings from speaking to the public it is clear that there are a number of requirements the space must meet in order to be successful. Firstly it seems there is a real need for that ‘something extra’ to do in Dundee be it a spontaneous gig or a themed event, people want to have the option of doing more cultural things. SO, in response to this the ground floor or basement is going to have a section dedicated to music and performance space. Perhaps by creating some form of sound proofed box or zones or even just one large open space, a large portion of the building will be reserved for music.

Other issues seem to be that people are just too busy these days to engage in activities which have no other purpose than a simple pass time. Thinking about this I feel like it might be a good idea to have a library style section where people can do work, be in a quiet zone and get things done but instead of doing this alone at home, they will have the chance to do work together in an enjoyable environment surrounded by similar people to themselves.

The rest of the building will be divided up into a space for food and drinks, intimate areas for dating events, workshop space for different classes and a potential space for exercise classes such as yoga which doesnt require too much storage space for equipment or sound pollution to the rest of the building.

Over the next week I hope to start sketching in the brand new, gigantic sketchbook I have very ambitiously just purchased! Having been really strong at sketching in school I feel like I have lost the motivation and patience over the years and would really like to work on getting it back over this project and the coming summer in order to develop a good style for fourth year.
