The Final Week

With a lot of pressure to finish our boards to as high a standard as possible with the incentive of being selected to submit our work for the chance to win £3500 I have been in a state of mild panic this week!
Finding myself out of touch with the way we work in Dundee having recently returned from 5 months living in Belgium for Erasmus it took me a little while to get to grips with the whole project until nearer the deadline but am hopefully on the right track now.
(experimenting with how I could convey the fold away aspect of the space)
Using our experiences at the two touchpoint sessions - David Gauntlet and the Design in Motion bus I decided that it was important to create a user journey for my concept to make it as clear as possible what would happen at every stage of the process and design. With medical students in particular studying in highly stressful conditions it was necessary to make the space provide a practical function in order to make the students more inclined to use it rather than taking time away from their studies. With this in mind I devised the concept of creating a question or thought wall where students and professionals alike were able to share their struggles or ask questions in an anonymous way by hanging them on a low-cut wooden frame. This activity would help reduce the fear and pressure often experienced in a lecture room environment in which students may refrain from asking vital questions due to the worry of seeming silly (similar to the reason why adults do not engage in play).

Creating the final design on sketchup before transporting it over to photoshop to demonstrate ways in which the space could be used, I spent a lot of time over the last few days attempting to improve my computer skills. Using the laser cutter for the first time as well I was excited to find out how easily it was to put my ideas into a 3d reality.
Over this final weekend I am going to put the final boards together which will probably be extremely difficult as we are only given 4 x A3 of space and there is a lot of information to include!
