Today was market research day! We arrived back in the DCA where we were greeted by a guest speaker who educated us on the subject that is ‘ethnography’. Instead of just your average market research which provokes standard yes or no answers, we were encouraged to really think about what questions we were going to ask and why. This proved a lot more difficult than we first imagined, trying to phrase our survey correctly in order to receive the right kind of information from the public. We decided that a change of scenery might be of help and moved our discussion upstairs! Within an hour we had successfully created a short, online survey in the hope of gaining an insight into the memories and experiences of our friends and family in relation to bullying.

After posting this online we agreed to go our separate ways and gather feedback from a mixture of young children and adults which proved to be a very interesting task. The survey started with the question ‘what is your experience of bullying at primary school?’ This was a great way to start as it got the interviewee to start thinking back and ease into the rest of the questions. By using this technique of re-phrasing questions instead of simply asking ‘were you bullyied?’ I noticed that many people would start sharing a whole range of information which would perhaps not of been mentioned if worded differently. Speaking to the public I also began to realise that nearly every individual I asked remember experiencing bullying at some point in their early school days. This just proves how common it is and how it affects so many people!

Tomorrow we will be looking at the results of the online survey and I am really excited to find out what they are!
